One stage/1 shot frost is where I cut and peel away the stencil, in all the areas that are to be frosted. I then sandblast all the exposed areas, in a 1 shot solid frost. Easiest for me and most affordable for you.
This door and sidelights are an example of a reverse etching where the background is frosted and the design remains clear.
